How to Prepare Your Business For A Hurricane

Hurricane season isn’t over yet, and this year we have all learned to prepare for the worst. From seeing the damage first hand of Hurricane Irma right here in Orlando, to hearing the horror stories from Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria, this season has been a scary one. When there’s a possible storm headed your way, it’s important not to panic. We’ve put together some tips for preparing yourself and your business for what’s to come.

Stock Up

There’s a lot of uncertainty that comes with hurricanes, so it’s best to prepare for the worst. This means your family should be stocking up on water, non-perishable foods, and flashlights. Your business, however, should also be stocked up and ready to go in case something happens. If your business is designing t-shirts, be sure to be stocked up on as many shirts as you can be in case you are unable to order more for a while. This goes the same for and supplies you might need for daily operation. Just because your business may be open after the storm doesn’t mean others will!

Protect Your Valuables

Flooding happens, whether you’re ready for it or not. To ensure that your valuables aren’t damaged by water or lost in the chaos, put everything in one place, above ground level, and away from windows. If your home has a room in the middle of the house without windows, stick everything important to you in there. This goes for your office as well. Put computers and valuable paperwork in a place where it will not be damaged. Flooring and furniture can be replaced but you’ll need to make sure that your business doesn’t have to start from scratch after the storm passes.

Don’t Forget About Your Customers

People tend to overreact during a hurricane and will often forget to take care of their customers needs. When you work with customers who aren’t local to you, they will be less forgiving when you don’t answer the phone during a hurricane. This is where an answering service comes in! Their job is to give good customer service and help to answer questions from your clients. By giving someone else the ability to help out your customers, you can take more time to focus on the safety of yourself and your family.

While hurricanes can be nerve wracking, you shouldn’t let your business suffer. These tips will help you to keep everything running smoothly as soon as the storm is over. You will be able to pick up right where you left off and not worry about losing profits or customers!
